Council considers cut in size
Christchurch City Council is asking for public reaction to a proposal that would lead to the city having eight wards and community boards, with voters from each ward electing two city councillors.

Multi-sensory centre opens at QEII Park
The Southern Centre QE II Park - a multi-sensory environment designed for people with disabilities – was officially opened by Deputy Mayor Lesley Keast on 1 September.

Peace and understanding
Last month I led a small delegation from the Council to Japan and South Korea. The trip included visits to two of our Sister Cities - Kurashiki and Songpa - and to the atomic bombing remembrance ceremonies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Over-all satisfaction remains high
This year 760 randomly selected people took part in the Council’s annual survey of residents. The questions ranged from how often they visited one of the City Council’s libraries to how satisfied they were with Council services.

New interpretation Centre opening soon
To mark the sesqui-centenary of the beginning of Provincial Government in Canterbury an Interpretation Centre is being developed in the old Provincial Government buildings on the south-east corner of Armagh and Durham streets.
