Worcester St through Latimer Square to close

Council has agreed to begin roadstopping procedures for Worcester Street through Latimer Square and to turn that land into recreation reserve.

The closing would see the two halves of the square merged as one green space, similar to Cranmer Square, allowing for less traffic and greater opportunities for recreation and events in Latimer Square. The road stopping is being publicly notified, alongside the City Plan variation for the area.

Meanwhile, a series of concept plans to improve the park and the roadway on Latimer Square West have been shown to groups with an interest in the future of the area.

The four plans are designed to reflect in varying degrees the heritage values of Latimer Square and the desire to make it more attractive as a recreational area.

Project Manager John de Zwart says that at this stage they are simply options that can be amended or enhanced, depending on the outcomes of ongoing consultation.
