LYFE 2003 festival 2 November

Planning for the popular LYFE (Linwood Youth Festival Experience) is under way. Now in it's sixth year, the event will be held on Sunday, 2 November (or 9 November if wet) from 11am to 4pm.

In past years thousands of young people and adults have turned out for the Linwood Park event to celebrate youth pride, diversity and achievement in a uniquely Linwood way.

Each year a new coordinator is appointed to lead a crew of keen, enterprising Linwood youth through the demanding business of event design and management.

This year's coordinator, Toni Wikatene, is now working with young people who have fresh ideas and says this year's event will be "bigger and better than before".

"It's all about showing off and celebrating the incredible talent in Linwood and there is heaps of it," she says. "Performing arts, leading bands, cultural performances, great food, heaps of fun activities and a great crew ready to work together to bring this day to realisation is what it takes."

The festival is also an opportunity for community organisations to share information and knowledge to support youth development in Linwood. LYFE is supported by the City Council's Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board and Leisure Unit, 4YP, local schools and community organisations including Linwood Resource Centre, Avebury House, Linwood Community Arts Centre and Diverse Youth Cafe.
