Everyone should have a hobby. For the Christchurch Mayor,
it's putting new life into old cars. His latest product is
based on a Chrysler chassis of about 1928. "I'm no purist
with these things and me and my mates tend to marry bits
and pieces with the idea of creating something that's able
to be used every day, rather than being an exact replica," Mr
Moore says. "Any car I own is made to be used regularly." In
that spirit, the body is a copy of an English open-top touring
style from a slightly earlier Vauxhall, and the radiator "kind
of suits that style. Finding bits is part of the fun and
working with other people to get it together." Mr Moore
says he's aiming at the end of June or early July for the
new machine's first public outing.

Someone sent Garry Moore a necktie in early April. There was no note and no name
with the gift but Mr Moore suspects it was in reaction to his appearing in

wife Pam’s always on at me to wear ties, but the truth is I hate them,” he
says. “I guess it’s a real generational thing."
