Time for a Laugh 1940s-style on 28 June

It's time to laugh away the winter blues with an afternoon of memories, songs and music from the 1940s at the Richmond Workingmen's Club. Senior citizens who live in Richmond, Avonside, Dallington, Inner City East and Linwood North are invited to a special mid-winter celebration -- Time for a Laugh -- on Wednesday, 28 June, 1-3.30pm.

Song and dance company Chant et Danse will entertain with a lively 1940s-themed performance of songs and comedy, and afternoon tea will be provided by the Earl of Richmond Restaurant. Completing a simple crossword puzzle will enable you to go into a draw to win a variety of prizes.

Time for a Laugh is a free community event funded by the Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board and co-ordinated by the community recreation adviser. It is held in conjunction with Avebury House, Richmond Workingmen's Club, Richmond Methodist Church, Te Whare Roimata, Linwood Community Arts Trust, Avonside Holy Trinity, Richmond Methodist Church, Delta Community Trust, Linwood Library, City Housing and health promoters such as Piki Te Ora and Stay on Your Feet.

An entertaining and informative event, Time for a Laugh is designed to connect older people with people, places and pursuits. Numbers are limited to 300.

  • Avebury House (ph 381 6615) will provide a courtesy coach for those who live in the area and do not have access to transportation.
