Christchurch airport emphasises its environmental focus
Christchurch Airport has reinforced its dedication to best practice sustainable principles with the appointment of a dedicated environmental officer. Brigid Casey (pictured at right), who started in the role recently, is committed to upping the ante on the airport's existing environmental policy.
As a major landowner with both a long-term history and commitment to Canterbury's future, Christchurch International Airport Ltd (CIAL) takes its obligations under the Resource Management Act seriously. The airport company developed and manages the Environmental Compliance and Monitoring Programme (ECMP), which applies to all operating areas and tenants at the airport, and ensures they actively implementbest environmental practices, such as having a site drainage plan, regularly inspecting and maintaining storm water systems, and training all staff in environmental awareness and spill response.
"The ECMP has been in place for 10 years now," says Ms Casey, "and with the creation of this new role, the airport company has reinforced its commitment to good environmental management. As a major landowner in the Christchurch area, CIAL must continue to implement and monitor best environmental practice across the airport campus."
The role will also have an educational function, working with tenants from throughout the airport community to ensure they are well informed about their environmental responsibilities.
