TV2 KidsFest box office opens on Sat, 17 June

Tickets for TV2 KidsFest, New Zealand's favourite festival for children, go on sale at the box office on Saturday, 17 June at 9am.

To celebrate the opening, children from the Christchurch Wizard School of Public Performance will again parade with massed pipe bands from the Christchurch Art Gallery to their graduation ceremony at the Town Hall.

TV2 KidsFest's mascot, Cool Stuff, says he can't wait for this year's animal-themed festival to get started. TV2 KidsFest runs from Saturday 1 July to Friday 14 July.

"After last year's roaring success (no pun intended), I'll have kids checking out all things animal – from New Zealand wildlife through to the African safari; they'll see it all," the furry yellow creature says.

"Kids should start planning their TV2 KidsFest adventure now. They then need to discuss with a grown-up all the things they'd like to try out during their holidays."

There are more events than ever before on the calendar, from running a caf to making monster smoke-rings. Kids can listen to stories on the tram, ring the bells of the Cathedral or sleep over in "Antarctica".

And make sure to keep a special eye out for The Breeze Barnyard Bash, Animal Magic and Dog's Day Out in association with Hills Science Diet (see p5 for more information about these events).

Tickets to paid events can also be purchased until 7 June, using the preferential booking form available in the official brochure, or downloadable from the www.kidsfest.co.nz website. Tickets for free events must be obtained through Ticketek.

  • If your children have not yet received a brochure through their school, you can get one at any Council Service Centre or Library, or by phoning the TV2 KidsFest hotline on 941 6877.
  • Visit www.kidsfest.co.nz or listen to The Breeze (94.5FM) for the latest up-to-date festival information.
