Wind It Down Around Schools

Speed limits have been dropped to 40kmh at certain times of the day around five Christchurch schools. The speed limits near Belfast School, Bishopdale, Branston Intermediate, Halswell Primary and Harewood are effective when children arrive at school and leave.

Illuminated signs operate at these times. The first-of-its-kind initiative is a trial by Christchurch City Council and Transit New Zealand, in partnership with the Police and Land Transport Safety Authority.

The aim is to make roads safer for everyone, especially children, and encourage children to walk or bike to school.
