Allez! Allez! to Akaroa

The scenic Le Race course provides fast downhills — and unrelenting uphills

About 500 cyclists are expected to take part in Le Race, a 100km ride with a difference from Christchurch to Akaroa, on Saturday 25 March.

Everyone who enters receives a small bottle of wine and everyone who finishes receives a bottle of wine and a French bread stick.

The most creatively dressed team will win a $400 prize pack from The Press and there will be other major prizes and spot prizes.

Last year Chris Barnsley recorded the fastest time, of 2 hours 42 minutes 58 seconds.

Mountain bikers and road cyclists are welcome in the event and can enter as individuals or in teams of two or four, says organiser Astrid Andersen of The Events Company.
