Promoting Olympic Spirit

While the 2000 Olympics are on in Sydney, Christchurch children will be competing in a local version of the games.

The Children’s Millennium Games will be staged by Sport 2000, an advisory group of Turning Point 2000, to promote the Olympic spirit of friendship, fair play and unity through participation and achievement.

Sports programmes and activities will be held in schools before the games, which will be held at QEII Park complete with opening and closing ceremonies.

Event manager Mark Smith says there will be a surge of excitement before the Sydney Olympics (15 September to 1 October) and no better time for Christchurch kids to celebrate, and foster the spirit.
