Crime Prevention Training Workshop Opening

I see my task is to welcome you to a workshop on crime prevention. Crime prevention is one of those subjects that is a bit like the question of how long is a piece of string. That is, how far do you go?

Here in Christchurch we are prepared to go pretty far. In fact, we have pioneered a lot of the police/local body partnerships that people get excited about these days. We plan to do more.

Last year I took back the chairmanship of the Safer Christchurch Council so we could do just that. Today I will talk briefly about what we have come to call the Christchurch Way.

In recent years we have:

• Targeted inner city crime
• Targeted the clans that commit crime
