Opening of Addington Brass Band’s new rooms
Tuesday 25 March 2003
Greetings to another group of survivors of Mr Prebble
and his never forgotten pledge to “save rail”
I’m told that for the Addington Brass the result of being “saved” was
firstly the closing of the Addington Workshops, then the loss of
railways sponsorship followed by having to leave the old band rooms.
Just as well really you were only “saved”:
I’m delighted to see that since then you have not
only survived but are showing all the signs of thriving.
When you
got your own new bandroom in Vulcan Place I’m
told the aftermath of the sweet factory was bare walls and a very
sticky floor.
It looks and sounds a lot more plush now with the
panel ceilings and carpets.
You have also carried out a successful
courtship and marriage with Christchurch City Brass that I understand
has worked really
well.
In fact by last year with the merger more space was wanted,
you had to form a junior division and they made a great initial
showing at the 2002 Christmas Parade. It sounds like a great year.
Last
year you ended up buying the unit next door to get space for
a music library and new entrance leading into 3 tutoring
studios.
It looks for the moment to have given you enough room
to meet your growing membership and success.
I understand that
John Larson Electrical and Rob Preston the builder deserve a
special mention at this stage.
I’m delighted to officially
help open this latest stage of the continuing success story of
Addington Brass.
