Competitions galore for Neighbourhood Week
Cut out the colouring competition for youngsters — more copies of the competition are available at your local Service Centre and the prizes are great. The drawing (right) donated by a local artist for Neighbourhood Week this year captures the spirit of life in Christchurch so well. Creative young adults should also get thinking. If you ruled the world, what would your neighbourhood look like? We want to see essays, paintings, scripts, websites, maps, structures ... anything you like, as long as it’s portable. You can even work in a team with your friends. Paradise.net connections are prizes on offer. A caption competition for adults is something we haven’t tried before (see below). It'll take only a couple of minutes, and you'll be in to win a cruise on Lyttelton Harbour with Sea Cruises. Planning should start this month on how you’re going to have fun with your own neighbours during Neighbourhood Week. It takes only one person to start a great event — it would take only you. Local Service Centres will be processing funding applications later this month. Getting to know your neighbours seems like such a small thing, but it makes a huge difference in our communities. Streets with Neighbourhood Support Groups that are active are safer to live in and less likely to be burgled. If your local group hasn't met for a while — meet during Neighbourhood Week. Or call a local community constable for details on how easy it is to start a neighbourhood support group.
