Walkabout for Queen's visit to city

Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will have a public walkabout in Cathedral Square as part of the one-day visit to the city next month. The Royal Party will arrive in the Square at 12.15pm on 18 October.

Mayor Garry Moore will escort the Queen and the Mayoress, Pam Sharpe, will escort Prince Philip when the party meets the public.

The Queen and Duke will walk along a specially constructed floral walkway across the Square towards the Chalice. The walkabout will then continue along the walkway to the western side of Worcester Street.

It will last about 15 minutes, after which the Royal party will leave for Burnham Military Camp.

The St Andrew’s College Jazz Band and Backchat, a world champion barbershop quartet from Cashmere High School, will entertain the public before and after the event.

The Square will be closed to all traffic on the day until around 3.30pm.

A list of parking areas will be published in newspapers in early October.
