Work starts on new Ti Rakau Reserve in Brookhaven

The new Ti Rakau Reserve in Brookhaven is to have realigned pathways, a playground and a sports field Work has started on the new Ti Rakau Reserve in the Brookhaven subdivision. After public consultation it was agreed that the reserve would have realigned pathways, a playground and a sports field.

A car park will be provided in future near Kestrel Place if sports activities warrant it. It will be the major reserve in the subdivision and residents are looking forward to the development, says the area parks officer, Gary Harrow. As there are no footpaths in Dyers Road the pathway between the subdivision and Linwood Avenue will be a combined pedestrian-cycle link.

The cycleway will be extended to the large Charlesworth Street area as the waterways and wetlands are developed further into an ecological site.

Charlesworth Street will be stopped near Shearwater Crescent in the future.

In another development, plans are being made to widen Linwood Avenue between Dyers Road and Hargood Street to a four lane road.

Also, work will start soon on a pathway and a footbridge next to Kotuku Reserve. The bridge will span the Steam Wharf Stream and the pathway will run to Kotuku Crescent Reserve.
