An unsightly drain runs through
the grounds of Breens Intermediate. Pupils at the school decided to make this the focus of
their big idea.
Working
in partnership with the Councils water services unit, the Breens pupils developed a
design to transform the waterway to a recreational asset and wildlife habitat. Liaising
with the schools board of trustees, the Ministry for Education and Breens
neighbours, the waterway enhancement project has become an opportunity to link the school
with the rest of the community.
Once
funding was approved and designs finalised, work began on the project in November last
year, with pupils taking part in tree planting.
