Train to be a lifeguard

Christchurch City Council is about to start recruiting for pool lifeguard positions and to prepare people for these jobs will soon run the National Pool Lifeguard Award (NPLA) courses. Pool lifeguards work in a supportive team environment that is close-knit, social and fun. All Council lifeguards must have the NPLA qualification and a current comprehensive first aid certificate.

Christchurch City Council runs 12 swimming pools, from fun outdoor summer pools to four indoor pools. A very popular part of the city pools is Atlantis, a themed water wonderland at QEII.

We will be recruiting for pool lifeguards soon. The three-day NPLA course includes theory and practice and to get on it you must have a current first aid certificate. To make yourself eligible for a lifeguard position with the Council, this year’s NPLA course dates are shown below.

Course Dates:
August 13, 14, 20
September 10,11,17
October 15, 16, 22
November 19, 20, 26
December (depending on demand) 10, 11, 17
