Cranleigh Barton Drawing Award 2005
New Zealand artists are invited to enter the Cranleigh Barton Drawing Award, one of New Zealand’s most prestigious drawing competitions.
Set up in 1993 to recognise excellence in drawing and to raise its status within visual arts education and practice, this biennial award is made possible through the legacy of Canterbury watercolourist Cranleigh Barton.
This year the winner will receive $7500. An exhibition of selected entries will be held at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetu from 20 August to 2 October. More than 100 submissions were received for the award in 2003. Previous award recipients include Michael Dell, Nigel Buxton, Richard Lewer, Lorraine Webb, Ruth Cleland and John Mitchell, whose 2003 drawing Waitaki – Document #1 is shown at right. Judges of the Award this year are Neil Roberts, the Gallery’s Senior Curator, and artists Fiona Gunn and Philip Trusttum.
Artists wishing to enter should look online at www.christchurchartgallery.org.nz or phone (03) 941 7367 for entry forms and information. Entries must be received between 27 June and 1 July 2005 (by 5pm). |
