Parade to cast ‘fun spell’ on festival to come

On Lions Test day, 25 June, thousands of Christchurch kids will be a bit distracted with just 14 sleeps to go to their very own festival. In and around Christchurch, maybe only Santa heads off TV2 KidsFest (9-22 July) as the best-fun time and especially since it all happens in the mid-winter school holidays.

Adding to the anticipation at 10.30 that morning will be a parade, when about 250 of our most talented children process from the Art Gallery to the Town Hall as the first-ever Christchurch Wizard School of Public Performance students to attend their graduation ceremony.

It will be a fantastic sight, with children dressed topto-toe in wizard outfits, accompanied by the combined pipe bands of Christchurch in a parade of celebration that also marks the opening of the TV2 KidsFest box office.

From 9am that same day a queue will have formed outside the Town Hall Ticketek office, all anxious to snap up tickets for the festival’s 112 events taking place all over Christchurch and the Waimakariri district.

The Wizard School children are actually students at Impact Dance and Stage School who will perform as Kidsbuskers in the central city from Monday 18 to Thursday 21 July and then all together in the spectacular all-singing, all-dancing Kids Aren’t Square concert in Cathedral Square which closes TV2 KidsFest (starting at 12.15pm on Friday, 22 July).
