Making music from rubbish

Every year TV2 KidsFest puts a creative twist on turning trash into treasures. This year, it’s called the Trash Orchestra.

Christchurch percussionists Pandemonium will help children create instruments at workshops from 13-15 July for use in a Big Performance finale on 16 July.

Pandemonium’s Brett Painter says the 45-minute finale could feature as many as 600 children.

“After the workshops, where we’ll also be teaching the children to play along with our band, there’ll the big finale which will be just oozing with enthusiasm.”

One of the best parts of this events, Mr Painter says, is the fact that the children will be able to take something away with them. “They will have a musical instrument to take home and keep working on.”
