Get rid of household hazardous waste - safely

Do you have paint, turpentine or lead acid batteries at home you want to get rid of? These items can have long-term effects on our environment so take them to a hazardous waste drop-off centre, where they can be handled properly and disposed of safely, free of charge.

Drop-off centres are located next to the RMF recycling centres at Council refuse stations.

If possible, leave material in its original container and give staff as much information as possible so that they can clearly identify the substance.

Items accepted include*:
  • Used Oil / automotive liquids
  • Car batteries
  • Old gas cylinders
  • Liquid chemicals
  • Dry chemicals
  • Household Cleaners
  • Paints and solvents
  • Old refrigerators/freezers
  • Old garden herbicides
  • Garden pesticides
*Material from businesses is not accepted. If you have commercial material to dispose of,
check the Yellow Pages under waste disposal.
