Crashbash winner 17 June
Six finalists have been selected from 22 entries for this year’s Christchurch High School Crashbash scriptwriting competition. The winner will be named at an event at 8pm on 17 June, in the Art Centre’s Great Hall.
Crashbash is a joint community road safety theatre project managed by the City Council and the Land Transport Safety Authority. “It was great to see so many entries this year from a variety of students and all ages” says Elizabeth O’Connor, one of the three judges.
This year’s theme is travelling in a car driven by someone who has had too much to drink. Ruth Leversedge, the producer, says, “the theme comes from our alcohol-related crash statistics that show passengers of drivers who drink are often more at risk of serious injury than their drivers”.
The Crashbash competition, now in its third year, is open to high school students in the greater Canterbury region. Students were asked to submit a seven-minute script that could be turned into a production and performed by professional actors. The winning script will be produced and taken on tour around high schools.
The six finalists will attend a two-hour workshop with a professional scriptwriter to develop their scripts. |
