Central City Will Be Adventure Playground

European circus duo The Tomansi
European circus duo The Tomansi will perform aerial ballet and trapeze on a high wire between Rydges Hotel and the Clarendon Tower, for the Adventure Festival.
On Sunday, 18 March, the central city will be transformed into The Adventure Playground, a variety of exciting events core-funded by the Council.

The area from Cathedral Junction to the end of Worcester Boulevard, including Cathedral Square and sections of Cambridge Terrace and Montreal Street will be a pedestrian precinct for the day — the first time this has ever happened.

Heading the bill is the world’s first Jiggernaut Racing series.

Teams of four will race Britten-built rail racing machines on the tram tracks.

Competitors include Steve Gurney, John Howard, Ben Lucas and Erin Baker.

Perhaps the most spectacular event will be a high wire act by Europe’s The Tomansi, giving their only New Zealand performance.

The Adventure Playground will also include things people can try such as a giant swing and tightrope walking, and activities suitable for children.

The Adventure Cafe in the square will serve, among other things, hot chillies, wild pork, emu and ostrich.

A Telecom high tech adventure in the old Westend Theatre will help people learn to navigate their way around the world wide web.
