US actors for KidsFest

Pickwick Players Sarah Pilgrim and Justin Tate in a scene from the play The Hundred Dresses. Visiting US theatre group The Pickwick Players will present at TV2 KidsFest The Hundred Dresses, a tale offering lessons on giving, acceptance and forgiveness.

The play is based on the Newberry Award-winning book by Eleanor Estes and is about Wanda Petronski and the secret behind her 100 dresses.

The Pickwick Players were established in 1968 as part of the Midland Community Theatre in Midland, Texas. They include young actors and have come to New Zealand especially for Christchurch's highly popular KidsFest.

They will perform The Hundred Dresses at Hagley Open Theatre (Hagley High School) on 4 and 5 July and take an all-day workshop on the 5th.

KidsFest takes place in the school holidays from 1 to 14 July. There will be more than 140 events and workshops this year to keep youngsters from babies to 12 year olds entertained. About one-third of the events are free of charge.

Brochures were distributed to primary and intermediate schools, creches, playcentres and Council service centres at the beginning of this month. A special feature this festival will be the martial arts programme, aimed at encouraging kids to learn basic moves of judo, aikido, karate and seido karate. TV2 KidsFest
