Show Day later this year This year’s Canterbury Anniversary Day, known as Show Day, will take place later than usual — on Friday, 17 November. It is later because 2000 is the first year to fall under a redefinition of the holiday by Canterbury local authorities. They have agreed that anniversary day each year should be the "second Friday after the first Tuesday in November". This year is extra special because it is the 150th anniversary of European settlement of Christchurch and Canterbury; 160th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi by Ngai Tahu and it marks 250 years of Ngai Tahu settlement in the region. |
