The Queen Elizabeth ll Park-based event will include pool swimming, open water swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and water polo. It is expected to attract over 3000 competitors and thousands more visitors. "The economic impact and international exposure for Christchurch will be enormous", says Alistair Graham, Christchurch City Council Leisure manager.

The championships are tentatively scheduled for two weeks in early April, 2002.
