Kids' concert every Thursday

An audience gathers at the City Mall amphitheatre to hear a free Kids in Town concertEvery Thursday at 12 noon the public is treated to a free concert by Christchurch school children in the City Mall amphitheatre (intersection of Cashel and High Streets).

The young performers sing, dance or play music. It is their schools’ choice.

The Kids in Town concerts are coordinated by the Christchurch City Council’s events team, which organises the year- long concert schedule, bus transport and sound equipment.

This year children from more than 50 local primary and intermediate schools will take to the amphitheatre stage.

If the weather is bad, they may be moved to South City Shopping Centre, and in the third term of this year (20 July - 21 September), they will perform in Cathedral Square.

Every year the Council sends registration forms to schools, inviting them to take part.

The series is popular and has been running several years.

The audience is usually made up of parents and other family and friends, shoppers, Central City workers having their lunch, and passersby.
