Keeping East safe Burwood-Pegasus Community Watch volunteers average 3000km a month keeping the district safer. And it has just received its second car for the job. In 1995 Burwood-Pegasus Community Board wanted to make its area a safer place to live and was advised by the police to start a roving car watch. A public meeting attracted about 50 locals and the Rotary Club of East Christchurch helped with funds for the first car. Todays volunteers (many attended that public meeting) drive the car around the district most afternoons and every evening to keep it safer. Now the Rotary Club bas presented another $4000 towards the cost of the second community watch car. The Community Board pays for its petrol and running expenses. |
