Pedal the Park to Pier

Taking an enthusiastic but laid back approach to the Park To Pier
Taking an enthusiastic but laid back approach to the Park To Pier are multisport legend Steve Gurney (front), City Mayor Garry Moore, entertainer Jason Gunn and Burgundy (8) and Shannon (7) from Camp Quality.
"On your bike" will take on a new meaning on Sunday 31 October when a new and fun event is introduced to Christchurch. It’s the Park to Pier Bike Ride, in association with Smiths City and the Christchurch Star, starting at North Hagley Park at 10am and finishing at Christchurch Pier.

"It’s not a race, it’s a ride," says co- ordinator Sandy Galland.

"There will be no prizes for coming first — and no disgrace in coming last!"

There will however be prizes for those who decorate themselves and their bikes in the Halloween theme (31 October is Halloween).

The aim of the 13km ride is to encourage all entrants to cycle and reinforce the fact that Christchurch is a cycle-friendly place. Entries will be taken on the day and donations will go to Camp Quality, a camping and support programme for children with cancer.

Local celebrities, including Jason Gunn and Steve Gurney, will take part and there will be a festive atmosphere at the start and especially the finish with live music and entertainment at the Spring into Action Gala.

Watch The Christchurch Star for more details or contact Sandy Galland on 385 2061.
