Libraries mark year of older people

To celebrate 1999 as the International Year of Older Persons, Canterbury Public Library has organised a programme of events.

Throughout this month libraries around Christchurch are offering a range of activities, including storytelling for grandparents and their grandchildren and opportunities for older people to learn about the library's computers.

On 1 October, the International Day of Older Persons, the library launched a new suite of web pages designed for older people who have had little or no experience using the Internet. Spot prizes are being awarded at random to people using the new pages and all winners will be entered into a draw to win a Uniden Cordless Extend-A-Phone.

Details of events are available from all libraries or by phoning 941 7923.
