Dobbyn to headline New Year’s Eve concert Top Kiwi songwriter and musician Dave Dobbyn (right) will be the star performer at the New Year’s Eve concert in North Hagley Park. He will take to the stage following segments of children’s entertainment, Maori song and dance, retro pop, musical theatre, opera and a performance from one of the country’s hottest new bands, Zed. Top comedian Mark Wright will be master of ceremonies at the six-hour event, which more than 125,000 are expected to attend. It will celebrate a proud tradition of New Zealand music, culture and performance. Highlights will include two spectacular fireworks shows, one around 10pm and another at midnight. The second will be the biggest pyrotechnics display ever staged in the South Island and will include the largest star shell ever fired in Hagley Park. "In the Park 2000" will end at 1am, giving people a chance to catch their breath before making their way to New Brighton beach to witness the first dawn of the new millennium.
