Introducing the Burwood/ Pegasus Community Board

Christchurch City Council is divided into 12 wards for electoral purposes. Two Councillors and three Community Board members are elected from each ward. The 12 wards are paired to form six Community Boards. Each Community Board comprises six Community Board members and three Councillors appointed by the Council following the triennial election. In Burwood/ Pegasus the four City Councillors on the board are taking turns to serve on the board and at any one time only three are serving. City Scene on this page introduces the ten members of Burwood/ Pegasus Community Board.

The work on the right, by Bon Suter, is to do with wind and water; a journey through stone and new life. The sculpture on the left is an Easter Island head, which has been comissioned.

Stone sculptures in the sand

A growing exhibition of limestone sculptures by the South New Brighton sand dunes has become a fascinating focal point for residents in the BurwoodPegasus ward and visitors.
The large sculptures are the work of local sculptor Bon Suter, invited sculptors and students.

When the works are finished they will be for sale. In the meantime they have transformed South Brighton Beach Park, just off Marine Parade, into an Easter Islandlike setting.
"The vision is that it will keep expanding and become a huge sculpture garden," says Bon.

Local people watch the sculptures take shape and visitors come to see the open-air exhibition, which is supported by the BurwoodPegasus Community Board.
