Summer fun to come

Three fans of Summertimes get ready for some big days — and nights — out.

City Council Leisure event organisers are hopeful for better weather conditions with the opening of Summer Theatre, a feature event in this year’s programme.

Featuring the Court Jesters, ‘Whose Bard Is It Anyway?’ runs until 4 February and promises improvised good fun, based on the works of William Shakespeare.

On 4 February “Retro!” — a new event celebrating a different decade of music every year — presents a blast from the past with a return to the polyester and paisley of the 1970s. It will feature live music from The Vague As Brothers, Stonefish and Puree.

New SummerTimes events still to come this year include Telecom Twilight Movies — a programme of three comedies screened under the stars in Victoria Square on 8, 15 and 22 February.

ASB Bank Starry Nights on 24 February will feature the best musical theatre hits from “Westend” and “Broadway” in a singing and dancing spectacular.

The popular SummerTimes finale Rick Armstrong Motors Classical Sparks on 3 March will present classic and contemporary orchestral hits, with fireworks to finish.
