Having grown up in Shirley and been a resident in Papanui for the past 30 years, I understand both their strengths and their needs. I’m a current Community Board member and involved in numerous community groups, including the Belfast Kapuatohe Historical Committee, which I chair, and the committee for the 4 laning of Main North Road Styx Bridge. I am also a Justice of the Peace. My life has been devoted to working with children and the elderly. My husband Kevin and I have organised the Barrys’ annual toy drive for the past 16 years, donating over 150,000 toys to underprivileged children. I am keen to support the development of local parks and playgrounds and improved safety in our streets and neighbourhoods. I will make myself available to listen to individuals and groups as I have done for the last six years. myra.barry@netaccess.co.nz

Ngaire BUTTON (Independent Citizens)
Christchurch is home to me. I was born here and have lived most of my life here.
Four of my children were born here and all of them have been educated at local schools.
My passion is to grow the City while preserving our character and assets for future generations.
I am a long-term thinker and believe strongly in efficient local government making sound common sense decisions.
The welfare of Youth and Family and the safety of our local community are a primary motivating factor in my decision to invest my life in serving on the Community Board.
Election to the Community Board will be a natural progression of the work I already do on the Board of Trustees and Women’s support and personal growth network.
I am committed to and practise Christian values.
My interests include music, draughts, gardening, fishing and camping with my family.
Tracey DORREEN (Labour for Christchurch 2021)
I have had leadership roles in various community organisations for several years, especially in working with people with disabilities. I am currently studying towards a degree in psychology. I live locally and am married with three children. I actively support the right of all children to live and play in a safe environment and I’ll work to improve road safety, especially for children going to and from school. I will also work for improved street lighting, as this is another important safety issue. Another priority for me is affordable access to swimming pools and sporting facilities. I am strongly opposed to the introduction of user charges for library books and water supply. I am a solutions-oriented woman who believes in a team approach to solving problems. I am committed to serving the people of Papanui-Shirley to the best of my ability.

Megan EVANS (Independent)
I have lived in your community for 9 years with 6 of these as the St Albans Community Constable.
I am currently a Christchurch City Councillor, member of the Shirley/Papanui Community Board and a front line Police Officer in your area.
In my first term on Council I have served on Sustainable Transport and Utilities, Regulatory and Consents and Community and Leisure Committees. I have also served on many resource consent hearing panels.
As a mother, I understand the importance of creating a safer community with a sense of well being for the whole ward. It has been a privilege to serve as an elected member and I feel I have made a valuable contribution and would like to continue to serve you as a Community Board member in the Shirley/Papanui Ward.
Chris GOURLIE (Labour for Christchurch 2021)
I’ve a long-standing relationship with this ward, first as a teenager visiting family and friends, later as a student, and more recently as a resident. I’m employed as an account manager for a consultancy firm. More importantly, I’m active in the Restorative Justice Services Trust – an organisation helping victims of crime through a reconciliation process - as both a facilitator and as a member of the Trust Board. A healthy community empowers us all. Unfortunately the well-being of our ward is threatened because it is being divided physically by heavy traffic passing through our neighbourhoods. Another concern is that some people no longer feel safe in our suburbs. These are two issues that we need to address urgently. I’ll work to tackle traffic problems and to build a spirit of community cooperation and understanding. I’ll be a strong voice to make sure that your views are heard.

Dennis HILLS (Christchurch 2021)
First elected to the Board in 1992, I have been Deputy Chairperson since 1998. A Justice of the Peace, Technical Consultant and former DSIR scientist, I am committed to serving my community. As a Redwood resident for 45 years I’ve been involved in the Redwood School PTA, Redwood Community Centre Association, WEA Council and District Council of Social Services. I have always worked to preserve our precious environment. I chair Guardians of the Styx and wrote the book "The Styx Story". I strongly support effective recycling of waste. The City Council often calls on residents to give their views on complex issues. My technical knowledge has enabled me to explain the issues and to assist local people to communicate their views. I have also made submissions to the Council on their behalf. I ask for your support so that I may continue to work for the community. dennis.hills@xtra.co.nz

During my time on the Board I have taken a special interest in pre-school and out-of-school care. Married with four children and a resident of the ward for 20 years, I’ve been employed by St John Ambulance as a Paramedic for 24 years.
