Top golf shows Christchurch to the world
Golfers from around the world came to Christchurch last month for the $US600,000 ING New Zealand PGA Championship at the Clearwater Golf Club.
The City Council has a three-year commitment to the event, granting $300,000 a year and making some underwriting available for 2005 and 2006.
The other sponsors included ING Financial Services, Jacobs Creek, Clearwater Resort, Outrigger and 100% Pure NZ.
Entry for spectators to the February 24-27 event was by gold coin donation, with the proceeds donated to the Christchurch charity Ronald McDonald House. As a result, large numbes of local fans went to watch the four days of competition.
The City was promoted nationally and around the world, with coverage on TV3, Fox Sports in Australia, Golf Channel in USA, Japan and Canada, and on CNBC worldwide.
