Heathcote River plan

What would you like the Heathcote River and its surroundings to look like in 10, 20, or 50 years time?

That's what the Council will be trying to find out in March and April, as it works with the community to establish a long-term vision for the area. Once this has been done, the Council will be able to produce a long-term plan for the river, including how it will be landscaped, what trees should be planted and what changes should be made to meet future demands.

Because the Heathcote is so long, this year's consultation will focus on the stretch of river from Colombo St to Hansen Park. People will be able to have their say about the vision from Monday, 14 March, until Friday, 22 April, through a series of public meetings, by making an on-line submission on the Council's website at www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay or by sending in the submission form available from Council service centres and libraries.

Please note that the website and brochures for this consultation will not be available until after Monday 14 March. The dates for public meetings are:

  • Monday 14 March, Opawa School, 6.30pm
  • Thursday 17 March, Cashmere Club, 6.30pm
  • Monday 21 March, Beckenham School, 6.30pm
  • Tuesday 22 March, Huntsbury Community Centre, 6.30pm

Local residents are asked to go to their closest meeting venue if possible.

After Monday, 14 March, you can find out more about the Heathcote River vision by visiting www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay or by picking up a brochure from your local library.
