Sculpture-bench unveiled

Addington residents relax on the new sculpture-bench featuring children's Jungle Book author Rudyard Kipling at the work's unveiling in Kipling Street late last month.

The artwork encourages people to take time out of their busy routines to ponder Kipling's words carved into the back of the bench: "I always prefer to believe the best of everybody – it saves so much trouble".

The work was commissioned as part of a five-year Council improvement programme to enhance Addington while preserving its special character.

The seated residents were among 70 people who attended the unveiling along with the creator, sculptor Chris Reddington, Council staff, politicians and those who helped build the bench and improve the street.
