More in your crate, more on the truck

Rinse and squash all cans and plastic bottles

Squashed plastic takes up less space in your recycling crate and in the collection trucks, which means fewer truck trips back to the depot to offload are needed.

Squashing lightweight containers also reduces the chance of them being easily blown out of the crate and around your neighbourhood.Rinsing makes sure items are clean and empty of all contents, whether food, drink or cleaning material. This makes a huge difference to the collectors who sort them by hand on the collection trucks.

Containers may be stored for several weeks until there is sufficient quantity for transporting to manufacturers. Dirty items, and food or liquid left in containers can smell and attract flies, wasps and vermin.
