Anzac Day services

On Anzac Day this year there will be a variety of ways to take part in events to remember the sacrifices people made during past wars, including traditional services in various places around the city.

This will be the 90th anniversary of the World War One landings at Gallipoli. The city's Anzac Day begins with a dawn parade, starting at 6.15am opposite Rydges Hotel on Worcester Street and marching up to the Cenotaph in Cathedral Square for a service.

The City Council helps organise the annual Citizens' Service, at 10am in Christ Church Cathedral in Cathedral Square. Over recent years, this service has been increasing in popularity, with more and more young people especially taking part. The Council encourages people to come along and to bring their children and grandchildren.

Other regular city services include gatherings at Church Corner in Upper Riccarton, the Halswell Domain, Wycola Avenue, Papanui's St James Park, New Brighton, Templeton and at Sumner/Redcliffs.

On Sunday, 24 April at 7pm, the popular Anzac Brass show happens in Christ Church Cathedral in The Square. This year's theme is "music that kept the home fires burning" and will feature the Cathedral Brass, organist Barry Brinson and the Cathedral Singers.
