Looking at Facilities

SHIRLEY-PAPANUI COMMUNITY

What do people think about the recreation and community facilities in Shirley-Papanui and what else is needed?

These are the main questions the Shirley-Papanui Community Board wants answered through a study it has commissioned of existing facilities and community organisations.

It wants to determine what’s available; what it’s used for; whether it is suitable, and whether people would prefer something else.

“We may find out that one new facility may not be the answer,” says Bruce Meder, the area’s community development advisor. “We might need three different facilities, for example one for sport; one for social activities; one for adult learning. Is it time for a new swimming pool?

“We might want something to be close to Northlands Mall or part of it.”

A report on the study is due at the end of May and hopefully the community board will be able to support what is recommended.
