Celebration of cultures


A group from the Rewi Alley Chinese School in Wharenui will perform at the cultural festival. A festival at Riccarton High School on 8 April will celebrate the diversity of cultures in the Riccarton-Wigram area.

From 11am to 3pm there will be entertainment on the main stage including Irish and Scottish dancers, Greek and African groups, Maori, Fijian, Philippino and Chinese.

Traditional ethnic food will be available all day andthere will be demonstrations of activities such as bonsai (Japanese culture) and gumboot throwing (Kiwi!).

Th event has been organised by Jane Mulholland, Christchurch City Leisure recreation advisor, and James Stephens, a polytechnic student who is working with the Council.

Riccarton-Wigram Community Board is funding the festival.
