Boost for children’s games:

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has confirmed a financial contribution to the Children's Millennium Games in Christchurch in September. NZOC has also recommended the games for patronage under the Switzerland-based International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sport for All programme.

Open for business:

The Council's energy-efficiency house at 10 Leander Street, Papanui, is open for business 11am to 6pm six days a week, closed on Wednesdays. At the opening, Mayor Garry Moore said the house showed what could be done in the quest for energy efficiencies.

Earth Day:

Next month millions of people worldwide will celebrate Earth Day, promoting environmental action. The Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society is co-ordinating activities in New Zealand for 29 April.
