Plan for new centre to showcase Christchurch Almost $400,000 over two years has been provided in the draft annual plan for an environment centre to provide information, education and displays on past, present and future development of Christchurch. The Council has proposed to investigate the lease of a heritage building in the central city for a centre, called "Our City". As well as exhibitions of exciting environmental projects there will be displays that remind us of our rich heritage. It is expected to be of interest to Christchurch residents and visitors. Provision of $100,000 and $140,000 has been made has been made in years 1 and 2 (respectively) of the plan for operational costs. Capital provision of $150,000 has been included to cover fit-out costs. The people who run the present Environment Centre, above The Body Shop in City Mall, would be invited to take part in the new centre with other community groups and professional associations. |
