Advertising reshuffle to save costs

The Council recently considered tenders for newspaper classified advertising as part of advertising and publishing savings to reduce Council budgets by $400,000 this financial year.

In addition to cost, factors such as availability and credibility of The Press and The Christchurch Star, as well as circulation and readership within the Christchurch urban area, were taken into account.

The end result was that the Council would continue to use The Press for employment, tenders and property sale advertising.

Public notices would now appear in The Christchurch Star.

Resource consent applications would be published in both newspapers (not just The Press).

This new arrangement will work better with the markets that Christchurch’s two main newspapers have: The Christchurch Star covering residential, while The Press has a stronger presence with the business and commercial customers.

The changes took effect on 22 March. All advertisements also appear on the Council’s website www.ccc.govt.nz
