Moai, a stone sculpture by Rapa Nui (Easter Island) sculptor Tebo, has been officially unveiled at the Arts Centre. The work is a gift to the city from Chilean Ambassador Carlos Appelgren to mark 30 years of bilateral relations between Chile and New Zealand.

Last year’s official Chilean National Day festivities were celebrated in Christchurch, the first time they had taken place outside Wellington.

During that week Tebo began carving Moai. The goal was to create a gift to the city that would be an emblem of the links between the two countries.
