Culture galore
A free multi-cultural event put on by the Council’s
Riccarton/Wigram and Fendalton/Waimairi Community
Boards is proving popular. The Culture
Galore! Event, held for a second time
earlier this year, drew a crowd of more
than 3500 people and featured
performances by about 30 cultural groups,
including Greek, Russian, Spanish,
Taiwanese and Pacific Island cultures with
Irish and Korean dance acts also taking
centre stage. There was also a tempting
array of international food. The event was developed from a
recommendation by the Avonhead Recreation and Sport
Research which identified the diversity of cultures living in
this area of Christchurch. More than 45 local cultural
