Make sure you’re enrolled to have your say "Make sure your enrolment details are up to date" is the message the Electoral Enrolment Centre (EEC) is taking to all eligible electors during the lead up to this year’s local authority and district health board elections in October. EEC National Manager Murray Wicks said that even if people have enrol led and voted before, they still need to check that their enrolment details are up to date for this year’s election. "People often assume they’re enrolled for life and don’t need to do anything except to turn up on Polling Day to cast their vote. "However, as this year’s elections will be held by postal ballot, only voters who are correctly listed on the updated electoral rolls will receive voting packs in the mail and be able to take part. "This means it’s really important that all eligible electors are enrolled and that anyone who has changed address or other details checks to make sure their enrolment details are correct." From 2 August, personalised enrolment enquiry packs will be sent to all registered electors for them to check their details. Electors need only to return the enclosed form if any of their details need changing. "If you don’t receive a pack, you are either not enrolled or your enrolment details are out of date. If this happens, you will need to fill in a new enrolment form," Mr Wicks said. Enrolment forms are available from any Post Shop, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or from the elections web site: www.elections.org.nz. "The web site contains useful information on enrolment and the upcoming elections. You can also check your enrolment details at the site, update these if necessary or enrol online," Mr Wicks said. "Enrolling is quick and simple to do. If you have any queries or need more information, you can call 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or your local registrar of electors. "The registrar’s address can be found in the telephone directory under New Zealand Post." The last day for people to enrol or update their details is 31 August. Voting papers will be sent to registered electors from 21 September and will need to be returned by midday on Saturday, 13 October. "Local authority and district health board elections affect the communities we all live in.
