Wine festival at North Canterbury fete

A new wine and food festival will be held next month at the popular annual Christmas Country Fete in Culverden.
In the past the fetes have been held at various homesteads in the district. This year, on Thursday 26 October, the fete will be held at Wynyard, Culverden - the home of Tim and Lou Davison.
A 75-minute drive from Christchurch, Wynyard has extensive grounds, park-like surroundings and views to the mountains. It is 12km east of Culverden and will be signposted.
The fete will be held from 10.30am to 4pm and entry will cost $8 for adults, with children free. There will be plenty of parking.
Run by four North Canterbury women - Jossy and Lou Davison, Fizz Rutherford and Sue Gardner, this ninth fete will meet the growing interest in gourmet food and wine. Also new will be a system where advance bookings for lunch (at $25) will include the gate entry fee.
There will be about 170 stalls from around the country. Original watercolours by well- known artists will be on sale along with interior accessories, garden furniture, Christmas stocking presents, dried and artificial flowers, and plants.
Jossy Davison says "We concentrate on the best quality with lots of variety. We try to provide a unique shopping opportunity for discerning buyers in a delightful garden setting".
Charities to be supported are the Cancer Society, Save the Children Fund, the new art gallery in Christchurch, Amuri Community Trust and the Plunket Society. The fete is held whatever the weather. (No dogs or picnics are allowed.)
