Spencer Park’s new play equipment almost complete
The Spencer Park playground upgrade is near completion. As part of the survey carried out, the public indicated that the old play areas were spread over too many sites, making it too hard to supervise children. The play equipment people wanted to retain were the flying foxes. As part of the upgrade, three new flying foxes have being installed. A large mound was created to add interest and give access to one of the flying foxes, slides and cargo nets. A second smaller mound has climbing poles on top to give a sense of height. A sand play area has being included and has “buried fossils”, a sand digger, spinner item, small slide and will soon have low benches for water play activities. Cargo nets are to be attached to the side of the mounds to allow access to the top. A wheelchair swing, similar to the one in the Botanic Gardens, is to be installed by Christmas. A new space net, the largest in the South Island, is a great play item as it takes large numbers of people, including adults. Low level confidence rope elements have proven popular. Art work is to be installed at the entry point to add interest. These will reflect the local flora and fauna.
A new space net.
