Public invited in to learn about sharp end of Council operations

Val Kenyon, of the Templeton Residents’ Association, listens in as customer services representative Megan Craw (at left) talks to one of the thousands of callers who get in touch with the City Council every week.

Mrs Kenyon and other members of her association came in recently to learn more about the Council’s Customer Services operations and the work being done to ensure all callers get good service. Staff at the Council call centre, based in a refurbished building on Lichfield Street, are hosting interested groups in an effort to increase understanding about how they operate.

Mrs Kenyon says changes to improve job tracking at the City Council are making a difference.

“I’m ringing in a lot, asking for things to be done and I’m finding the new systems are good, especially the way they give you a reference number,” she says. “If nothing’s being done you can ring back, give them the reference number and they can tell you what’s holding it up, but I’ve never had to do that. The call centre’s great and they get the job done. I tell people all the time that if they want something looked into, they should call in.”

  • Christchurch City Council aims to make calling easier to understand and is working hard behind the scenes to make sure all requests are followed up. If you want something done (for example maintenance, collection of rubbish, animal control or grafitti) call the Action Line, 941 8666. If you’re after information, call 941 8999. If you want to book a Council facility or programme or building inspection, or if your group is interested in learning more about Customer Services, call the Booking Line on 941 8888
